THE IVORI BUYER’S GUIDE · ADULT WHITENING
Whitening foam vs toothpaste:
find your brighter-smile routine.
Foam, paste, strips or a dentist-led plan? Compare what each option is for, how it fits your day and what to check before you buy.
Compare the options
THE SHORT ANSWER
Choose by the result you want and the routine you will keep. A fluoride whitening toothpaste is a straightforward option when you want stain-removal care within your usual brushing. IVORI Whitening Foam brings a fresh mint finish and a whiter-looking smile to a foam-and-brush routine, with the bottle available separately or alongside adult IVORI One.
Keep your regular fluoride toothpaste routine when adding IVORI foam. Strips and powders add a more specific application step. Colour correctors offer a temporary appearance effect. For a change to your natural tooth shade, start with a dentist. The word “foam” describes the format; the formula and directions tell you what it does.1, 2, 3
01 / START WITH THE OUTCOME
What would you like
to change?
A brighter smile can mean lifting surface staining, briefly changing the look of yellow tones, or lightening the natural tooth colour. Those goals lead to different shopping decisions. Select the closest match to see where to start.
YOUR STARTING POINT
Compare stain-removal care first
A fluoride whitening toothpaste may suit you if you want to keep your usual brush and work on everyday surface staining. Check its fluoride level and stain-removal directions. A dentist or hygienist can assess stubborn discolouration.
Find your practical shortlist ↓A shopping guide for adults, not a dental assessment. All routes are explained below.
Surface stains
Tea, coffee and other staining can affect the outside of teeth. Stain-removal care aims to improve that surface appearance.2
Temporary colour effect
Some purple colour correctors are designed to conceal yellow tones for a short-lived appearance change. Read the product’s description of how long it lasts.6
Natural tooth shade
Dentist-supervised bleaching aims to lighten natural tooth colour. A tailored home-tray plan can be part of that route.3
This is a map of different goals, not a scale of results. For the underlying distinctions, read whitening toothpaste, bleaching and cleaning: different jobs.
02 / THE SIDE-BY-SIDE VIEW
Six ways to approach
at-home whitening.
Compare the application as carefully as the promise. A product that fits your existing brushing is a different commitment from a separate strip session or a fitted-tray plan.
| Option | Where it fits | What using it involves | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|---|
| IVORI Whitening Foam | A mint foam for a whiter-looking smile within a foam-and-brush routine. | A 50 ml pump bottle. Follow the bottle’s amount and method; the adult One pairing is shown below. | Choose the correct application for your brush. Keep your fluoride-care routine.1 |
| Fluoride whitening toothpaste | Daily brushing plus surface-stain removal, according to the particular formula. | Uses your familiar toothpaste-and-brush routine. | Fluoride concentration, suitability and the exact stain/whitening claim.2, 4 |
| Whitening strips | A dedicated treatment applied to the teeth. Ingredients and effects vary. | A separate wear period. For example, Hismile PAP+ specifies a 30-minute application and sells seven treatments. | Active formula, treatment count, instructed wear time and restrictions. A treatment count is not a guaranteed result.5 |
| Stain-removal powder | Targeted stain care, with directions specific to the product. | An extra powder application or toothpaste pairing. MySweetSmile gives its own brushing and frequency instructions. | Whether it supplements toothpaste, how often to use it and the pack’s precautions.7 |
| Temporary colour corrector | An optical appearance effect rather than a promised lasting shade change. | Apply and reapply as directed. Hismile V34 describes concealing yellow tones temporarily. | The expected duration, application method and whether the effect suits your goal.6 |
| Dentist-supervised home trays | An assessed plan to lighten natural tooth colour. | A dental assessment, fitted trays and a prescribed home schedule. The NHS describes a usual home course of around 2–6 weeks. | Your suitability, the full treatment quote, sensitivity advice and how existing dental work will look.3 |

What changes when the format changes?
The table gives you a shortlist. The next question is what an ordinary application would actually involve. Use this six-format map to separate something you do while brushing from a product that needs its own session.
Dispense → apply → follow the brush method
The pump is a way of delivering the product. Check where the foam should go, which brush or appliance is covered, and the bottle-directed amount. A pump count from another brand is not a transferable dose. For IVORI’s adult One pairing, the foam goes onto the mouthpiece.
Apply → brush → keep the fluoride routine
This is the closest format to a familiar daily brushing habit. Compare the fluoride level and the specific stain-removal claim, then check any separate suitability needs. A product can foam as you brush and still be an ordinary toothpaste.
Place → leave for the stated time → remove
A strip holds its formula against the teeth for an instructed wear period. Decide whether you want to set aside that time, and read what one treatment includes. The named PAP+ example has upper and lower strips; seven treatments should not be read as fourteen complete sessions.
Measure as directed → apply → follow the schedule
Check whether the powder is paired with toothpaste or used as a separate step, and whether the directions describe daily or occasional use. Keep the instructions with the pot. Applying more powder or brushing harder is not a sensible way to settle uncertainty about the method.
Apply → assess the appearance → reapply as directed
Ask whether you want a temporary effect for a particular occasion. That can be a legitimate goal, but it has a different upkeep pattern from a lasting change. Read the exact product’s removal and reapplication directions rather than assuming every purple formula behaves alike.
Assessment → fitted trays → prescribed home plan
Home use can still be professionally supervised. Ask what is included in the treatment, how the trays are checked, and whom to contact during the course. The dental team sets the method for that gel and your circumstances.

03 / MAKE A REAL SHORTLIST
Start with the way
you want to use it.
Most people are choosing between two plausible routines, not every whitening product on the shelf. These examples show how to narrow the decision without turning a format into a universal winner.
“I LIKE MY CURRENT BRUSH.”
A familiar routine, with stain care.
Begin with a fluoride whitening toothpaste if your aim is everyday surface-stain care and you want to keep the same brushing format. Colgate Sensifoam is a useful example because its foaming texture and 1,450 ppm fluoride sit within one toothpaste.8
Your deciding question: does the formula meet your toothpaste needs as well as your appearance goal? If your dentist has recommended a particular toothpaste, discuss a change rather than replacing it solely for a whitening label.
“I WANT TO TRY A FOAM ROUTINE.”
Choose the bottle and the method.
IVORI foam is the route to explore for a mint pump format and a whiter-looking smile. If you already use adult One, review the mouthpiece directions below. If you are keeping another brush, confirm that the bottle’s application method covers it before buying.
Your deciding question: can you follow the intended method with the equipment you have? The bottle is sold separately, so compare that purchase with the optional brush pairing.1
“I CAN SET ASIDE A SEPARATE SESSION.”
Compare a defined treatment schedule.
Strips may appeal if you prefer a distinct application period rather than another brushing product. Read the complete treatment count and wear time, then decide when those sessions would fit. The PAP+ example’s 30-minute instruction makes the time commitment tangible.5
Your deciding question: do you want that separate session often enough to follow the actual course? Compare the formula and directions as well as the pack’s promise.
“I HAVE AN OCCASION IN MIND.”
Be clear about temporary versus lasting.
A colour corrector’s temporary appearance effect may fit a short-term cosmetic goal. Read how the effect is described, when to apply the product, and whether reapplication suits the occasion. V34 is an example marketed for temporarily concealing yellow tones.6
Your deciding question: would you still be satisfied if the effect needs reapplication? An event date is a reason to choose the right goal, not to exceed a product’s instructions.
“I WANT A DIFFERENT NATURAL SHADE.”
Make the dental plan the first purchase decision.
If lightening natural tooth colour is the main goal, compare dentist-led options, including a supervised home-tray course. Mention any crowns, veneers or fillings you can see when you smile, because their colour will not change with the natural teeth in the same way.2, 3
Your deciding question: what result is suitable for your teeth and existing dental work? The assessment may change your shortlist, your timetable or whether whitening is the right next step.
These are shopping scenarios, not a diagnosis of your discolouration. If you are unsure what has changed, a dental assessment is a better starting point than buying a stronger-sounding formula.

The current product directions pair the foam with One’s mouthpiece. Use the amount directed on your bottle, seat the mouthpiece and gently guide the powered brush. The short demonstration below shows the movement.
- Apply as directed. Put the bottle-directed amount onto the mouthpiece.
- Seat the mouthpiece. Place it around your teeth and start the brush according to One’s instructions.
- Guide gently. Move the handle side to side while keeping the mouthpiece seated.
- Finish and care. Spit out the foam and rinse the mouthpiece after use.
Read the One first-use checklist for fit and setup, and follow the bottle for the foam’s amount and frequency.1
Buying foam separately? Check the application method
You can buy the bottle without buying One. Before using it with another brush or appliance, check that the bottle directions cover your intended method. If that is unclear, ask IVORI about the exact pairing.

Build whitening around
your daily care.
Choosing a whitening format and protecting teeth are connected decisions. Check both the whitening role and the fluoride information, particularly when you are adding a product rather than replacing one like for like.
DAILY FOUNDATION
Fluoride brushing
The NHS advises brushing twice a day for about two minutes with fluoride toothpaste, including last thing at night. Adults should look for at least 1,350 ppm fluoride, unless their dentist gives different advice. Spit out excess toothpaste; avoid rinsing your mouth immediately afterwards.4
YOUR CHOSEN WHITENING STEP
Product-specific use
Follow the exact amount, method and frequency on your whitening product. IVORI’s published Mint 50 ml ingredient list does not list fluoride, so retain suitable fluoride care. If the ordering of products is unclear, ask your dentist or the manufacturer before combining them.1
Rinsing a removable mouthpiece after use is different from rinsing your mouth immediately after fluoride toothpaste.
Make the first week about getting the routine right
Before the first application, keep the product’s amount, method and frequency in one place. Check how it fits alongside your toothpaste and which cleaning instructions belong to the brush or tray. If two sets of directions do not make the order clear, resolve that before combining the products.
Keep your first purchase simple. Using several new whitening formats together makes it harder to know which step you like, which instructions you are following, and what might be causing discomfort. Start with the routine you chose rather than adding a strip or powder because the first application did not match a photograph.
Plan what happens after the first bottle or course
Keep the label and directions readable, replace the cap and follow the stated storage and durability guidance. For a reusable brush or tray, follow its own cleaning and replacement instructions. The product that sits against your teeth and the formula you replenish are separate things to look after.
When you review the purchase, ask two questions: did you follow the intended routine, and did it meet the goal you bought it for? If the answer is no, revisit the choice or ask for advice. Do not automatically use a bigger dose, extend a session or stack treatments. Ongoing pain or irritation is a reason to stop cosmetic experimentation and speak to a dentist.
For help decoding a pack, see IVORI’s fluoride toothpaste label-reading guide.
06 / SET THE RIGHT EXPECTATION
Know what a result
actually means.
Fresh taste, a clean feeling and a whiter appearance are different observations. Enjoying one does not tell you how much another has changed. Decide which result matters to you before comparing a product’s headline with your own experience.
Separate application time from a results timeline
“Leave on for 30 minutes” tells you how to use a product. It does not automatically mean “achieve the promised result in 30 minutes”. Likewise, a pack containing seven treatments describes what you receive, not a guarantee of a particular shade change by the seventh session.
For a claim such as a number of shades or a result after a stated period, look for the exact tested product, how it was used and when the result was measured. Evidence about one formula or a different brand does not establish the same result for every foam, paste or strip.9
Read pictures alongside the explanation
Before-and-after images are most useful when the lighting, camera settings and presentation are comparable, and the teeth have not been digitally whitened. A temporary colour effect should be described as temporary. A dramatic photograph without the routine or timing leaves an important part of the comparison unanswered.9
For IVORI foam, use the bottle directions and the specific benefit you are buying: a whiter-looking smile and a fresh mint finish within a foam-and-brush routine. Keep any numerical result or time claim tied to the exact product information, rather than importing a timetable from a strip course or a professional treatment.
07 / LOOK BEYOND THE FIRST PURCHASE
Compare what you pay now.
Then what you replenish.
A low pack price can still buy a very different amount of use from a larger bottle or a supervised course. Separate the cost of starting from the cost of keeping the chosen routine going. That makes the comparison useful without pretending every format delivers an equivalent result.

If you also want adult IVORI One, its individual device price is £39.00. One plus one foam bottle comes to £58.99 at those separate listed prices, before any checkout adjustments. This is an optional brush purchase, not a requirement to buy the foam.12
Compare current offers, delivery and the instructed routine before checkout. For strips, colour correctors or dentist-led treatment, use the current seller’s price or a personalised written quote rather than assuming a category average.
STARTING COST
The first basket
Count the product, any required equipment, and delivery. If you already own the brush needed for your chosen method, do not charge yourself for buying it again. If you want a new One, include that optional purchase explicitly.
CONTINUING COST
The next bottle or course
Find the verified uses per bottle or treatments per pack, the instructed frequency, and any separately replaced equipment. A reusable tray, brush head and consumable gel or foam can have different replacement schedules.
A simple way to compare an instructed course
Write down the product’s pack price and the number of complete, instructed applications it contains. Divide the price by that verified application count for a consumable cost per application. For the cash you will actually spend, count whole packs needed for the intended course and add required equipment and delivery.
Keep both numbers labelled. Half a pack’s allocated cost is different from paying for a whole pack at checkout. For strips, confirm whether the advertised count means individual strips, upper-and-lower pairs or complete treatments. For foam, do not convert bottle volume into applications without a verified dose or use count.
IVORI’s 50 ml bottle size and £19.99 price are known; the number of uses for a specific instructed routine is the missing input for a defensible cost-per-use calculation. You can compare the starting basket now and check replenishment needs against the bottle directions. For dentist-led treatment, ask whether the written quote includes trays, gel and follow-up, and what future top-ups would cost.
Cost helps you plan a purchase. It is not a measure of whitening strength or a reason to use a product more often.
08 / BEFORE CHECKOUT
Three final checks
before you buy.
09 / YOUR QUESTIONS
Before you make
the switch.
Can whitening foam replace toothpaste?
Check the specific product’s purpose and fluoride content. Some foaming products are fluoride toothpastes; other foams have a separate role. IVORI’s published Mint 50 ml ingredient list does not list fluoride. Keep appropriate fluoride care when adding it to your routine.1, 4, 8
Can I buy IVORI foam without buying One?
Yes. The 50 ml bottle is available separately. Use the bottle’s directions for the intended application, and check with IVORI if you plan to use it with a different brush or appliance.1
How quickly should I expect a whitening result?
Use the result claim and schedule for the exact product you choose. A strip wear time, a brushing duration and a whitening-results timeline measure different things. Do not borrow one product’s timing for another or increase use to try to speed things up.
Will whitening change crowns, veneers or fillings?
Whitening acts on natural teeth and does not change the colour of dental restorations in the same way. Ask your dentist about colour matching before starting if you have visible restorations.2
Is peroxide-free whitening automatically gentler?
The term tells you something about the formula, but it does not by itself establish how effective or comfortable the finished product will be. Compare the exact product’s directions, suitability information and evidence instead of treating one label phrase as a complete safety assessment.
Can I combine foam, whitening strips and powder?
Choose a clear routine and follow each product’s directions. Ask a dental professional before combining whitening treatments, particularly if you have sensitivity. More products or a longer contact time should not be assumed to deliver a better result.
Are dentist-supplied home trays an at-home option?
Yes. A dentist can assess your teeth and gums, provide fitted trays and explain a home-use schedule. It combines home application with professional assessment and oversight.3
